The Story

It’s Christmas Eve and Clara and Fritz warmly greet their friends as their Party is about to begin. Little do they know that Drosselmeyra, a local magician and Clara’s godmother, wants to surprise Clara with a magical gift. As she casts her magic, she gives the audience a peek at what’s to come-snowdrops and reindeer come to life foreshadowing the magic that’s to come!

As we enter the home of Clara and Fritz, we find a beautiful tree decorated with lights and ornaments surrounded by presents. Clara, Fritz and their friends begin to dance, and suddenly, Drosselmeyra arrives with presents! She saves the most special present for last to give to Clara, as the Nutcracker is revealed the children stop in amazement! After some dancing, guests leave the party. Clara continues to dance with her Nutcracker doll yet gets very tired and decides to lie down in her bed. While she rests, mice start to appear and dance- Clara wakes up frightened as the mice have taken over her room. She runs away frightened, the Nutcracker’s soldiers start to defend her. The battle continues until the soldiers defeat the mice, the tree disappears and snow comes to life. Clara wanders through this magical land of snow.

Soon Clara stumbles upon the Sugar Plum Fairy’s kingdom, as she enters all the sweets grace her with dances of different kinds from Spanish (chocolate), mirlitons (marzipan), chinese (tea), Arabian (coffee) and more. The dances culminate with the Sugar Plum Fairy dancing with her prince. Clara is overjoyed as the Sugar Plum Fairy asks all her kingdom to join together to dance with Clara. After they dance, the Sugar Plum Fairy calls her snowdrops and angels to come out. One small angel hands her the Nutcracker doll and Clara continues to dance with the doll. Everyone disappears; Clara is left dancing and wondering whether it was truly a magical spell or just a beautiful dream. Either way she has loved the adventure!
